How We Build and Verify Our Data
GunExpos.com is operated by Technology Geeks, Inc. We publish data on 42,227 federally licensed firearms dealers, 790+ gun shows, and the firearms laws of all 50 U.S. states. This page describes how that data is sourced, normalized, and kept current.
FFL Dealer Data — ATF Source
Dealer information originates from the Federal Firearms Listings published monthly by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The ATF publishes this data as a public record under federal law. We download the latest release on the first Monday of each month, normalize the records (title-case business names, validate ZIP codes, geocode addresses), and import into our database.
- Refresh cadence: Monthly, on the first Monday after the ATF release.
- Geocoding: Radar.io free tier with Google Maps Geocoding API fallback.
- Validation: ZIP codes cross-checked against state assignment; phone numbers normalized to digits.
- Indexability gate: Only dealers with active ATF status, complete address, and a verified phone are surfaced to search engines (currently 42,227 of ~75,000 raw rows).
- Last import: 2026-05-09
Gun Show Data — Multi-Source Pipeline
Show information is aggregated from a combination of: (a) direct submissions by
promoters, (b) competitor directory crawls, (c) Google Events via Serper.dev,
and (d) direct promoter websites. Every show carries a source
field in our database recording where the data originated.
- Refresh cadence: Weekly crawl, with daily delta checks against the most recent 30 days.
- Deduplication: Match on venue address + start date (±1 day tolerance).
- Promoter verification: Promoter contact information independently verified before public posting.
- Past-event handling: Shows whose end date is more than 30 days in the past are automatically marked
noindex, followand moved to the per-state archive view.
State Gun Law Pages — Editorial Process
State gun law guides are written by our editorial team and reviewed against primary sources every six months or whenever a relevant statute is amended. Each guide carries a visible Last updated date and a "Reviewed by" byline. Reviewer: Dwight Ringdahl, Founder, Technology Geeks, Inc.

Schema A/B Test Disclosure
We currently emit two different Schema.org types on dealer pages — half use
GunStore and half use Store — to measure which
performs better in search rich-result eligibility. Bucket assignment is
deterministic by dealer ID parity, persisted on the dealer row. The split
is approximately 50/50 (37,112 vs 37,154 at last count). The test runs for
30–60 days; the winner becomes the standard for all dealer pages. This
page will be updated with the result.
