How FFL Transfers Work

When you buy a firearm online, federal law requires the seller to ship it to a federally licensed dealer (an FFL) — not directly to your home. You pick the receiving dealer near you, the seller ships the firearm there, you visit in person to fill out an ATF Form 4473 and pass a background check, and the dealer charges a transfer fee for the service.

Before you order online: call the receiving FFL to confirm they (a) accept transfers from your seller, (b) have current capacity for incoming transfers, and (c) what their exact fee is. Some shops won't accept transfers from out-of-state private sellers or specific online retailers.

No FFL dealers were found within 50 miles of ZIP 06906. Try the full Connecticut FFL transfer directory for dealers further away that may still serve your area.
