Garden as food prep — it's harder than you think
First year growing food as part of my prep plan. Currently have tomatoes, peppers, beans.
Learning to can and preserve. Any gardener-preppers here?

Yeah gardening humbled me quick! First year I killed more plants than I grew lol. But now we're getting decent harvests. Dehydrating is easier than canning to start with imo. Got my Excalibur running constantly this time of year. What's your climate like? That makes a huge difference in what grows well.
Seeds are cheap but everything else adds up fast. I've been doing container gardening since I rent - 5 gallon buckets work great for tomatoes and peppers. Check Facebook marketplace for used canning supplies, saved me a ton.
Congrats on starting the garden! It really is harder than most people think. What zone are you in? Those crops are solid choices - beans are nitrogen fixers so they'll help your soil. For preserving, get a good pressure canner if you haven't already. Ball Blue Book is the bible for canning. I've been growing about 80% of our vegetables for the last 8 years and the learning curve is steep but worth it.
This is inspiring! I just started prepping and was thinking about gardening next year. How much space do you need for a decent amount of food? I've got maybe a 10x10 area that gets good sun.
LOL I felt the same way. It gets better after a few weeks trust me.
