BOB weight — mine is way too heavy
My BOB weighs 38 lbs and I'm starting to think that's way too much. For reference I'm not in great shape.
Quality over quantity right?. Thinking about ditching the tent for a tarp.

38 lbs is way too much unless you're in great shape. I keep mine around 22 lbs and even that feels heavy after a few miles. Honestly though... how far you really gonna walk with that thing? Most "bug out" scenarios you're driving anyway. But yeah, ditch the tent for sure. Tarp + bivy saves 3-4 lbs easy.
Mine's sitting at about 28 lbs but I hike regularly so can handle it. The tarp idea is good - I use a lightweight silnylon one that weighs under 8 oz. Also look at your water situation... carrying 6 bottles of water is pointless if you have a good filter. LifeStraw or Sawyer Mini will save you pounds. Food is where most people go overboard too - MREs are heavy, go with Mountain House or similar.
This is exactly why I joined this forum. Good discussion.
Been there done that. Lesson learned the hard way for me too.
Agree 100%. Had the exact same experience with my setup.
