LPVO vs red dot for home defense
Can't decide between a 1-6x LPVO and a Holosun for my Marlin 336. Primary use is a bit of everything.
Is 1x on a LPVO really 1x?

I had the opposite experience honestly. But everyone's different I guess.
Anyone else run into this? I thought I was the only one.
For a Marlin 336? I'd go red dot honestly. LPVOs on lever guns feel weird to me - the eye relief and mounting can be tricky. Plus for the ranges you'll typically shoot that .30-30, a good red dot like that Holosun will be faster and more practical. And no, 1x on most LPVOs isn't truly 1x... there's usually some magnification.
1x on an LPVO is rarely true 1x - most are closer to 1.1x or 1.2x. For precision work I notice it immediately. On a lever gun though? Red dot all day. LPVOs shine on ARs where you can get proper scope height and cheek weld. Your Marlin will handle better with a simple red dot.
