Budget scope for Marlin 336 — under $265
Need a scope for my Henry .30-30 but not trying to spend more than the gun cost. Budget $263. Mainly shooting hunting distances.
Looking at Bushnell AR Optics. What would you pick in this range?

Gonna have to respectfully disagree here. I've seen too many people have issues with that.
Facts. I switched to the same thing about 3 months ago and it was a game changer.
See a lot of those Bushnells come through my tables. They're decent for the money but I'd honestly look at a used Leupold or Nikon (if you can still find one). Been selling scopes for 15 years and the warranty claims tell the story. Vortex Diamondback is another good option right at your price point. Just saw one go for $240 at the Indy show last month.
Leupold VX-Freedom 3-9x40 might be pushing your budget but worth checking. Glass quality matters more than people think, even on hunting rifles. The Bushnell will work but tracking isn't as reliable if you ever need to dial. For a lever gun though, set it at 4x and leave it... most shots are gonna be under 150 anyway.
For hunting distances on a .30-30, you really don't need anything crazy magnification-wise. 3-9x40 is perfect for lever guns. That Bushnell AR Optics isn't bad but check out the Vortex Crossfire II if you can stretch the budget like $20-30. Glass is noticeably clearer and the warranty is solid. I run higher end stuff on my precision rigs but for a woods gun, either would work fine.
