How to store guns with kids in the house?
Got 2 kids (ages 4 and 6) and just bought my first gun. Safe storage is my #1 priority. Looking at a mechanical safe.
What do you guys use? Need quick access for HD but absolutely kid-proof.

Interesting take. I went the other direction and picked up a Ruger MAX-9 instead. No regrets so far but ask me again in 6 months.
With kids that age you need something they absolutely cannot get into. I use a Hornady RAPiD safe for my nightstand gun and a Stack-On cabinet for everything else. The mechanical combo on the Hornady is bulletproof and my 8 year old has never even come close to figuring it out. Practice the combo until you can do it in the dark - trust me on this one.
Not a parent but just wanted to say this is exactly the right mindset. Saw so many safes at my first gun show last month, kinda overwhelming tbh. The vendors were super helpful though explaining the different types. Definitely go mechanical over electronic from what everyone was saying.
Good on you for prioritizing safety with the kids around. I always recommend mechanical safes over electronic ones - batteries die at the worst times. Look at the Fort Knox pistol boxes, they're built like tanks. For long guns, stack-on makes decent budget options. Most important thing is that it's truly secure AND you practice opening it regularly. Muscle memory is key when you're half awake at 3am.
I'm in a similar boat but no kids yet. Went with a GunVault SpeedVault mounted under my nightstand. Takes about 2 seconds to open with the fingerprint scanner. Not sure how kid-proof it really is though... might want something more heavy duty with little ones around.
