Gun cleaning — how often? What products?
Just shot my HK VP9 for the first time (151 rounds). How often should I clean?.
Bought a basic cleaning kit from the LGS but not sure I'm doing it right. Any tips or YouTube videos you recommend?

HK's are pretty forgiving but I clean mine every 500 rounds or so. For a VP9 you don't need to go crazy - field strip it, wipe down the barrel and slide rails, light oil on the contact points. Honestly the HK manual has good cleaning instructions. Skip the YouTube rabbit hole for now, just follow what HK recommends until you get more comfortable with it.
I just went through this same thing! Got my Glock 19 a few weeks ago and was overthinking the cleaning too. My LGS guy said every 200-300 rounds for a new shooter is fine. I use CLP for everything - cleans, lubricates, protects all in one bottle. Makes it simple when you're starting out.
Solid post. I've been thinking about the same thing lately. My Glock 19 has been my go-to but I'm always looking at other options.
Thanks for sharing. Been lurking for a while and this finally made me want to comment.
Anyone else run into this? I thought I was the only one.
