Gun cleaning — how often? What products?
Just shot my Walther PDP for the first time (54 rounds). Is it bad if I don't clean it right away?.
Bought a basic cleaning kit from the range but not sure I'm doing it right. Any tips or YouTube videos you recommend?

The PDP's a great gun! You don't need to clean immediately but it's good practice when you're learning. I usually clean mine every 200-300 rounds or so in competition. For basics - bore snake, some CLP, and a few patches will handle 90% of your cleaning needs. Don't overthink it.
I was wondering the same thing! Got my first gun (S&W Shield) about 6 months ago and still not sure when I should clean it. The guy at my LGS said every time but that seems like overkill? Following this thread for tips too.
You're fine waiting a day or two to clean it, especially with just 54 rounds. Modern guns and ammo are pretty forgiving. For a new shooter I'd recommend cleaning after every range session just to get familiar with your gun. Hickok45 and Military Arms Channel have some good basic cleaning videos on YouTube. What kind of cleaning kit did you get?
This is exactly why I joined this forum. Good discussion.
I had the opposite experience honestly. But everyone's different I guess.
Interesting take. I went the other direction and picked up a HK VP9 instead. No regrets so far but ask me again in 6 months.
