Gun cleaning — how often? What products?
Just shot my FN 509 for the first time (127 rounds). What products do I need?.
Bought a basic cleaning kit from Walmart but not sure I'm doing it right. Any tips or YouTube videos you recommend?

How long have you had yours? Any reliability issues?
127 rounds isn't too bad but yeah, clean it. I'm more of a coin guy but my dad always said "clean your guns like you'd clean your coins" lol. Hoppes #9 is classic - smells terrible but works great. The basic kit from Walmart should have patches and a rod, just need some good solvent and oil.
Oh man, I feel you on this! Just got my Shield Plus a few months ago and was so confused about cleaning. The Walmart kit is fine to start but get some real gun oil - I use Ballistol now. YouTube is your friend... Hickok45 has some good basic cleaning videos that aren't intimidating. Take your time, no rush.
Congrats on the new FN! I just got my first gun too and was totally lost on cleaning. My LGS guy told me to clean after every range session when you're new - helps you learn your gun better. I picked up some CLP (cleans, lubricates, protects all in one) and it's been great for my Glock. Way easier than trying to juggle 3 different products.
