Best first handgun under $699?
Looking to buy my first handgun. Budget is $699. Mainly for home defense. Average hands.
The LGS recommended a Glock 19 but there are so many options. What would you pick?

G19 is solid but honestly I'd tell any new shooter to handle as many as possible first. My wife shot better with a S&W M&P 2.0 compact right out of the gate - the grip angle just worked better for her. For $699 you've got good options... G19, M&P, Sig P320 compact. Go to a range that rents and try before you buy.
I was in your exact same spot 3 weeks ago! Ended up with a G19 and love it. The guy at the gun show let me dry fire a bunch of different ones and the Glock just felt right. Plus parts and holsters are everywhere. Don't overthink it too much - you can always get another one later lol
