9mm vs .45 for a first gun — does it matter?
I know this is probably asked daily but as a new shooter should I go 45 ACP? The 9mm has more capacity but I keep hearing .45 is more proven.
Just want the honest answer, not the caliber war.

Another vote for 9mm here. As a single mom I wanted something I could actually handle well and afford to practice with. The recoil difference between my Shield Plus and my friend's 1911 is night and day. I can get back on target way faster with the 9mm, which seems more important than theoretical stopping power I'll hopefully never need to test.
I went through this exact debate when I started! Ended up with 9mm and honestly glad I did. The capacity difference is real - 15+1 vs 8+1 in similar sized guns. Plus 9mm is cheaper to practice with and you'll shoot more. The "stopping power" argument seems overblown from what I've researched. Just my 2 cents as someone who was in your shoes recently.
You should check out the 1911 Government too. Similar price point and I think the trigger is better.
Following this thread. Interested to see what others think.
Dude same. I spent way too long researching before I just pulled the trigger and bought one.
