Traveling with firearms — flying tips
Flying from AZ to CO and bringing my Sig P365X. Do I need to declare at TSA?
Don't want to accidentally become a felon on vacation.

Been flying with firearms since the 70s. Rules have gotten stricter but it's still pretty straightforward if you follow them. Main thing is don't try to be sneaky about it - they see everything on the X-ray anyway. Declare it, follow their process, and you'll be fine.
Yeah you absolutely have to declare at check-in, not TSA. Gun goes in a hard case, locked, ammo separate (can be in same case in some airlines). Check with your specific airline - they all have slightly different rules. And make sure you're legal on both ends... CO has some funky local laws depending where you're going.
One thing to add - take a photo of your case before you hand it over. Had Delta lose the key to my Pelican case once and they wanted to cut the lock. Photo proved it was locked when I gave it to them. Also keep your ammo count under 11 lbs total.
Declare at the airline counter when you check your bag. TSA will inspect it but the airline handles the paperwork. Done it dozens of times flying out of DFW. Just make sure your case actually locks - those little luggage zippers don't count. And get there early, adds 15-20 minutes to check-in.
This is exactly why I joined this forum. Good discussion.
Following this thread. Interested to see what others think.
You should check out the FN 509 too. Similar price point and I think the trigger is better.
Interesting take. I went the other direction and picked up a Springfield Hellcat instead. No regrets so far but ask me again in 6 months.
