Traveling with firearms — driving across states
Driving from GA to VA and bringing my S&W M&P Shield Plus. FOPA safe passage — does it actually protect me?
Don't want to accidentally become a felon on vacation.

Dude same. I spent way too long researching before I just pulled the trigger and bought one.
Welcome to the addiction lol. Your wallet will never recover.
That's a steal at that price honestly. I paid way more for mine.
+1 on this. My buddy had the same issue and switching to JM Custom Kydex fixed it for him.
Karen's right about the enforcement being sketchy. I've driven through some unfriendly states with firearms and the key is just don't give them a reason to search. Follow traffic laws, be polite, don't mention guns. FOPA is better than nothing but it's not bulletproof protection - pun intended.
FOPA should protect you but honestly the law is poorly written and enforcement varies wildly by state. Make sure the firearm is unloaded, locked in a case, separate from ammo, and in the trunk or rear compartment. Don't stop except for fuel/food. If you get pulled over in MD or NJ... well, that's where things get dicey even with FOPA. Consider shipping it to yourself if you're really worried.
