New gun law in CA — thoughts?
Just saw that a committee passed a bill that would restrict AR-style rifles.
Is this going to pass?.
Not trying to start a political fight, just want to understand the legal impact.

Tbh I don't know much about gun laws yet... still pretty new to this whole thing. Just bought my first silver bar last week and trying to learn about everything. But from what I've been reading it seems like CA always passes these kinds of things? Maybe someone with more experience can chime in.
Up here in AK we don't deal with that nonsense but I feel for you CA guys. Seems like every year there's something new. FWIW from what I've seen these committee bills don't always make it through... but CA is different. You might want to start looking at alternatives before they grandfather stuff in.
CA always does this crap. I've been watching ammo prices go crazy every time they threaten new laws. Last time they talked about ammo restrictions I saw .223 jump from $0.35 to $0.55/rd overnight at shows. Stock up now if you're in CA, that's all I can say.
The legal impact depends on how they define "AR-style" and what the compliance requirements are. If it's anything like the NY SAFE Act, you're looking at registration requirements and feature restrictions. But honestly the court challenges are what to watch - a lot of these laws get tied up for years. I'd wait to see the actual text before panicking.
Great info here. Bookmarking this thread for later.
Been there done that. Lesson learned the hard way for me too.
