FFL transfer question — private sale
Bought a Springfield Hellcat online and need to do an FFL transfer. How long does it take?.
Never done this before. My LGS says $36 for the transfer. Normal?

Just did my first transfer a few weeks ago! Was nervous but it's really no big deal. Took 2 days for me. The $36 sounds normal, mine was $40. Make sure you know what hours your FFL is open - learned that the hard way when I showed up and they were closed lol.
$36 is pretty standard, I see anywhere from $25-50 depending on location. Timeline varies but usually 3-5 business days if your background check is clean. Make sure you bring valid ID and be prepared to fill out the 4473. Some shops will start the process before you arrive if you call ahead with the seller's info.
That's about right for the fee. My LGS charges $30. Just did one last month for a buddy's AR upper. Took 4 days but that was with the weekend. Pro tip - call your FFL first and make sure they'll accept transfers from wherever you bought it. Some shops are picky about certain online dealers.
Good choice on the Hellcat btw. The transfer is pretty straightforward - your seller ships to the FFL, you go in and do the paperwork/background check, pay the fee, walk out with your gun. Only hiccup might be if there's an issue with the NICS system but that's rare.
This is the content I come here for. Thanks OP.
I'd love to see some photos if you get a chance to post them.

Interesting take. I went the other direction and picked up a Ruger LCP MAX instead. No regrets so far but ask me again in 6 months.
