FFL transfer question — out of state
Bought a 1911 Government from a buddy in another state and need to do an FFL transfer. How does this work?.
Never done this before. My LGS says $45 for the transfer. Normal?

Yeah that's normal pricing. The process is your buddy has to ship from an FFL in his state to your FFL. Can't do person-to-person across state lines. Your LGS will call when it arrives, you go in, fill out the 4473, pass NICS, pay the transfer fee and you're good. Some places charge extra for NICS but most include it in the transfer fee.
$45 sounds about right for most places. My LGS charges $40 but I've seen them go up to $60 in some areas. Just make sure your buddy ships it to an FFL on his end first - can't just mail it directly to your shop. The paperwork's pretty straightforward, just bring your ID and be ready for the background check.
Government models are nice... I've got a few 1911s that rarely see daylight lol. $45 is reasonable - I pay $35 at my usual shop but they know me pretty well. Just make sure it's going FFL to FFL, not direct shipping. The receiving FFL handles all the paperwork on your end.
I run a similar setup and it's been flawless. Good choice.

Not sure I agree but I respect the opinion. For me the Glock 19 has been rock solid for 6 months now.
This is exactly why I joined this forum. Good discussion.
