FFL transfer question — online purchase
Bought a S&W M&P Shield Plus online and need to do an FFL transfer. How does this work?.
Never done this before. My LGS says $42 for the transfer. Normal?

$42 seems a bit high but not crazy. My LGS charges $35. Just make sure they're doing the 4473 correctly and you have proper ID. Should be straightforward - they'll call in the background check and if you pass, you walk out with your new Shield. Nice choice btw, shot one at a USPSA match and it felt good in the hand.
That's pretty typical pricing for most areas. I see transfers anywhere from $25-50 depending on location. Rural areas tend to be cheaper. The LGS has overhead to cover so I don't blame them. Process takes about 15 minutes if NICS is running smooth. Sometimes there's delays but that's not their fault. Good choice on the Shield Plus - those are selling well at shows.
Yeah $42 is about right unfortunately. Some places out here in TX do it for $25 but they're getting rare. Just remember this is why we need to support the Second Amendment - shouldn't need government permission to buy what's already ours by right. But anyway... the process is easy enough, just another hoop to jump through.
Transfer process is simple. You give them the FFL info when ordering online, gun ships to them, you show up with ID and fill out the 4473, they run background check, you pay transfer fee and take your gun home. $42 is on the higher end - shop around. Some places charge $20-25. Just make sure they're actually an FFL and not just a gun store.
That's a steal at that price honestly. I paid way more for mine.
+1 on this. My buddy had the same issue and switching to Vedder LightTuck fixed it for him.
Facts. I switched to the same thing about 6 months ago and it was a game changer.
Can you share more details on your setup? I'm trying to decide between a few options right now.
