Can I legally ship a gun to myself?
Living in OH and need to know if it's legal to ship my guns to my new address.
I've googled but getting conflicting info. Anyone know the actual law?

Wait, you can ship guns to yourself? I'm new to all this but that sounds sketchy... wouldn't that be like mailing yourself a restricted item? Sorry if that's a dumb question but I'm still learning the laws around firearms.
Yep, perfectly legal. Been doing it for years when I travel for training. The key is following the carrier's rules to the letter - they're stricter than federal law requires. Out here in West TX we ship to ourselves all the time for hunts on different ranches. Just don't try to be sneaky about it, declare everything properly.
Yes, you can legally ship firearms to yourself under federal law (18 USC 922). Key requirements: must be legal in both origin and destination states, must declare it to the carrier, and you need to be able to legally possess it at both locations. Since you're staying in OH, state laws shouldn't be an issue. Use FedEx or UPS (not USPS for handguns). Get tracking and insurance. Make sure the receiving FFL knows it's coming if you're going through a dealer.
Karen's spot on. I've done this twice for matches - once when flying to a major match and once for a move. Pain in the ass but totally legal. Just make sure you declare it properly and don't use USPS for handguns. My Tanfo went FedEx overnight both times, no issues.
Not sure I agree but I respect the opinion. For me the Glock 19 has been rock solid for 5 months now.
I'm in the same boat. Let me know what you end up going with.
