Stippling a HK VP9 — ruined it
Thinking about stippling my HK VP9 and I'm nervous. Paid a shop.
Have you stippled? Do you regret it?

Dude, before you stipple consider Talon grips first. Way cheaper, reversible, and honestly might give you 90% of what you're looking for. I've stippled a few Glocks but never touched my VP9 - that factory grip is already pretty decent IMO. If you do go through with it, expect $150-200 for quality work and know it's permanent.
I'll be the dissenting voice here - I regret stippling my VP9. The aggressive texture looks cool but it's hell on clothing and uncomfortable for extended carry. The factory grip texture was fine, I just got caught up in the custom work hype. If you're dead set on it, go lighter than you think you need. You can always add more but you can't take it back.
Had mine done by a reputable shop about a year ago and love it. The grip improvement is significant, especially in wet conditions or with gloves. BUT - and this is important - make sure whoever does it knows HK triggers. The VP9 has that weird paddle mag release and the stipple pattern needs to work around it properly. Also kills resale value if you care about that. FWIW I kept the factory panels as backup.
Never stippled a pistol but I've seen enough hack jobs to know it matters who does the work. Check their portfolio, ask to see other VP9s they've done. The grip angle and contours are different than a Glock so the pattern needs to be tailored. Honestly though, have you tried different ammo first? Sometimes grip issues are really just recoil management issues.
This is exactly why I joined this forum. Good discussion.
Solid post. I've been thinking about the same thing lately. My Beretta 92X has been my go-to but I'm always looking at other options.
Facts. I switched to the same thing about 8 months ago and it was a game changer.
You should check out the Taurus G3C too. Similar price point and I think the trigger is better.
