Is the S&W M&P Shield Plus still worth buying in 2025?
Been eyeing a S&W M&P Shield Plus for a while. I know it's been out for a few years now. Still a good buy or are there better options at the same price point? Budget is around $499. Mainly for home defense.

Shield Plus is great! I've put maybe 2000 rounds through mine with zero issues. The 13+1 capacity is nice for a compact. Only complaint is the grip texture is a bit aggressive but that's personal preference. For $499 it's hard to beat.
The Shield Plus is still a solid choice tbh. I picked one up last year as a modern carry gun to go with my old-school collection. Reliable, good capacity for the size, decent trigger. At $499 you might also look at the Glock 43X or Sig P365 though... all good options in that range.
Great info here. Bookmarking this thread for later.
Dude same. I spent way too long researching before I just pulled the trigger and bought one.
Can't go wrong with the Shield Plus. Carried one as a backup for a while before switching to a G19. Reliable, accurate enough for defensive use, and S&W stands behind their products. For home defense though... why not a full size? More capacity, easier to shoot accurately under stress. But if you need something that can pull double duty as CCW, the Shield Plus works.
I actually have the original Shield (not Plus) and love it. The Plus has better capacity which is nice. For home defense you might want to consider a light-bearing holster setup too. Hard to beat S&W reliability and their customer service is solid if you ever have issues.
I run a similar setup and it's been flawless. Good choice.
