Agree 100%. Had the exact same experience with my setup.
PSA quality is hit or miss but for the price it's hard to beat. Built a truck gun with their parts kit last year - nothing fancy but it goes bang every time. Though honestly for $549 you might find better deals at gun shows if you're patient...
I sell PSA parts at shows and they're popular for good reason. Decent quality for the money and most issues get resolved quickly if you have problems. That upper price is competitive - I'm selling similar setups for around $580 at shows.
PSA has been solid for budget builds. Built two AR-15s with their parts and both run great. $549 after rebate is pretty decent for a complete upper. Just make sure you factor in the wait time for rebates - PSA can be slow processing them.
Good find! PSA deals come and go fast. I've had good luck with their uppers - nothing fancy but reliable. For anyone else looking, keep an eye on their daily deals page... they rotate specials pretty regularly.
